A story of love, betrayal and consequences, it is an astonishing work that is lucid, simple, and compelling in its truth.
A story of ill-fated love written in 1731 by Abbé Prévost, and first read when I was 17, it is as relevant today as 300 years ago as it continues to fascinate and amaze in how we can become so consumed by love for another that we lose ourselves.
Prévost saw this story as a service to the public to ‘instruct whilst entertaining’.
